We are a Flexible learning community where young people are able to access the same education that more traditional schools offer, but in a way that is more accessible and focused on where they are personally along the lifelong education journey.
Our schools are heavily connected to the story of Edmund Rice, with our curriculum designed around the Touchstones of; Liberating Education, Inclusive Community, Justice and solidarity and Identity. These touchstones provide a framework for curriculum that is; socially aware, gives access to global perspectives, is pathway focused and is individualised to each and every young person within our schools.
The Edmund Rice Education Australia Townsville Flexible School was established in 2006 to provide appropriate responses to the complex needs of young people in the Townsville region who have found themselves outside the mainstream educational system.
The School operates through a common ground framework based on the four principles of respect, honesty, participation and safe and legal.
The staff of the school build honest and authentic relationships with young people and their families or carers, supporting and celebrating the uniqueness and dignity of each individual.
Townsville Flexible School underwent a new build in 2023, and was officially opened on 22nd March 2023 and blessed by Bishop Tim Harris. We are grateful to the Federal Government for the generous funding received to complete this project.
The Burdekin Flexible Learning Centre was officially opened on Tuesday 19th July 2022 and blessed by Bishop Tim Harris.
